Summary
The Manager, University Policy and Enterprise Risk leads the development, review, approval, and renewal of university policies while identifying, assessing, and mitigating institutional risks across academic, operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational domains at George Mason University. This individual contributor role serves as the University Policy Manager and thought partner to the Chief Risk Officer, coordinating policy lifecycle management and supporting the enterprise risk management framework. The position reports to the Enterprise Risk Management department in Fairfax, Virginia, on a hybrid schedule.
Key qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent; 5-7 years of experience in policy management, enterprise risk management, compliance coordination, or organizational governance
- Experience with governance committees, policy owners, auditors, or risk stewards; knowledge of ERM frameworks (COSO ERM, ISO 31000) and higher education governance
- Experience developing training materials, process documentation, guidance on policy, compliance, or risk practices
- Experience using project management, risk tracking tools, workflow systems, or document management platforms
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication including policy drafting and executive-level reporting
- Ability to engage stakeholders, facilitate cross-functional collaboration, and translate complex concepts for diverse audiences
