What this is

CivicWorks is a directory of state government job postings relevant to applied research, policy, data, design, and performance management — the kind of work done by people with a technical skill and an interest in civic impact.

Who runs it

CivicWorks is hosted by The Policy Lab at UNC-Chapel Hill. Day-to-day contact is David Yokum (david.yokum@unc.edu). Email goes to a real person who will reply.

Data sources and methodology

State government job postings are public records. We assemble this directory using, in order of preference:

1. State-provided data feeds — open data portals, RSS, and public APIs, wherever they exist.
2. Direct partnership with state HR offices for structured access.
3. Polite scraping of public pages only where neither of the above is available, at a respectful rate, identifying ourselves in every request.

We do not bypass authentication, paywalls, or technical access controls. We honor removal requests.
