Reporting to the Air Quality Supervisor, this position performs specialized cleaning and decontamination of mechanical/electrical equipment, rooms, ducts, and air distribution devices in campus buildings at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The technician is part of a 24/7 emergency response team trained in respiratory protection and specialized disinfecting equipment, and also performs carpentry, sheet metal, insulation, and painting tasks along with repairs to HVAC systems and equipment maintenance.
Key qualifications

- Valid driver's license with daily vehicle operation required
- Ability to safely move and handle objects weighing 60+ pounds, work from ladders and scaffolds, and communicate effectively
- Ability to work in confined spaces and properly wear a respirator
- Must work in all weather conditions and be available for emergency callbacks 24/7
- Experience with HVAC repair, equipment decontamination, or computerized maintenance management systems preferred
