Summary
The Institute Director leads the New York State Institute for Basic Research in Developmental Disabilities (IBR), the research arm of the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. The director oversees approximately 30 research laboratories and a diagnostic clinic, managing clinical and research departments while developing research programs, securing grant funding, and ensuring alignment with OPWDD's mission to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This position reports to the OPWDD Deputy Commissioner and requires building internal and external partnerships to advance research in areas such as Down syndrome, autism, Alzheimer's disease, and rare genetic disorders.
Key qualifications
- Doctorate in Medicine with six years of progressively responsible clinical research experience, including three years of teaching at an approved medical school and three years supervising a clinical r
- Preferred: Current Medical Degree with active license and Ph.D., ideally Board-Certified Medical Geneticist
- Demonstrable experience obtaining NIH funding and knowledge of genomic research methods including whole genome sequencing and pluripotent cell lines
- Proven track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications and obtaining federal grant funding
- 10+ years of progressively responsible administrative, supervisory or managerial experience in research and treatment services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and project management skills with ability to lead research partnerships
